Aligning HRH Competencies with Local Health Needs

To best serve the health needs of communities, health facility managers should align the competencies of their maternal and child health (MCH), family planning (FP), and HIV/AIDS providers with the needs and demands of the populations that they serve. Unfortunately, staffing decisions are often made subjectively without regard to the prevailing disease burden or the health needs of the facility’s service area. With the push towards decentralized health systems, local managers must have the capacity, data, and tools needed to match the skills of their providers to local needs for MCH, HIV, and FP services.

Through this activity, HRH2030 will work with national ministries of health to:

  • Identify a set of priority service delivery tasks and conduct a rapid task analysis in select districts
  • Pinpoint gaps between population needs and district staff competencies
  • Recommend strategies for improving district staff distribution, management, and training
