04 Feb Infographic: Back to Basics — The Botswana Experience with Community-Led Improvement to Achieve HIV Epidemic Control
Botswana was one of the first countries in Africa to make HIV treatment available within its public health sector. According to UNAIDS, in 2017 84 percent of people living with HIV were accessing treatment. However, Botswana is still one of the countries most affected by HIV in the world, with infections steadily increasing. In its fight to achieve HIV/AIDS epidemic control, Botswana has recognized the need to “deliver differently,” or integrate community perspective in the design and delivery of quality client-centered HIV/AIDS services.
HRH2030 has been active in Botswana since 2017 supporting the Ministry of Health and Wellness to strengthen the facility-community linkage. The “Back to the Basics” infographic illustrates HRH2030 ‘s contribution to integrating HIV into Botswana’s community-based care and summarizes some key milestones that have come about as a result.
